Why CIIP is Important to Canada
Improving Foreign Credential Recognition
CIIP is part of the Government of Canada’s commitment to newcomers.
Achieving Canada’s economic potential depends on harnessing newcomer talent, yet newcomers often encounter barriers to the recognition of their skills, education and experience.
"The goal [...] will be to get those who are trained and ready to work in their fields of expertise into the workforce more quickly."
--Stephen Harper, Prime Minister
In order to fully benefit from the talents of newcomers, federal, provincial and territorial governments have committed to take coordinated action to advance the integration of internationally-trained newcomers into the Canadian economy. For example, the federal government has invested $50 million in developing a framework to speed up the assessment and recognition of foreign credentials.
"We want newcomers to be able to use their skills as soon as possible in Canada… CIIP will help them jump-start the credential recognition process before they arrive in Canada.”
--Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism
“Our government is committed to helping newcomers succeed in Canada… by improving foreign credential recognition so that newcomers can maximize their skills.”
--Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development
